Mopeds, Adult Trikes, and Heavyweights...

Can't load that bike in the car?

"No problem. I've got a strong back and a truck."

But seriously—I don’t mind taking on the heavyweights.

More and more people are using mopeds, e-bikes, and heavier e-trikes as everyday transportation. They’re practical, fun, and efficient. But when something goes wrong, transporting them can be a real challenge. Not everyone has a truck, a ramp, or the ability to lift a 90+ pound machine.

I’ve also seen other shops turn away mopeds simply because they don’t look like a traditional bicycle. I understand how frustrating that can be when you just need reliable service.

And then there’s the online order scenario…

A customer buys a moped online and a giant box shows up on their doorstep filled with what looks like a complicated mechanical puzzle. This isn’t Ikea furniture. These machines go fast—and you absolutely do not want them falling apart at speed. Professional assembly isn’t just helpful. It’s smart.

At Enjoy the Ride Bicycles, we proudly offer comprehensive mechanical service for:

  • Mopeds
  • E-bikes
  • E-trikes

Most of these machines use many of the same service components as traditional bicycles, and I have extensive experience assembling and repairing both mopeds and electric bikes.

  1. Flat Tire Prevention (Do This From Day One)

If you own any type of electric bicycle, I strongly encourage you to invest in flat prevention from the start. When flats happen on e-bikes, they’re significantly more expensive to fix.

    • Labor is typically 3–4x higher.
    • Fat tire tubes cost considerably more.
    • The added weight makes roadside fixes much harder.

    Here are my top recommendations:

    1. Slime or Sealant

The easiest solution for most riders. Installation takes less than five minutes.

    • $6 per wheel
    • $12 per wheel for fat tire bikes

Great for small punctures and everyday riding.

    2. Hard-Case Tires

A slightly higher upfront investment—but worth it. These tires have reinforced layers built into the casing to help protect against thorns, glass, and road debris. If you're replacing tires anyway, let's choose the best option for your riding style.

    3. Heavy-Duty Tubes

Up to six times thicker than standard butyl tubes. Much more resistant to thorns and sharp debris.

    4. Tannus Armor

Want to dramatically reduce your chances of ever getting a flat? This is the premium option.
Tannus Armor inserts surround the inner tube with a dense foam sleeve, providing approximately ½"–¾" of protection beneath the tire casing. Installation is more involved—but the protection is unmatched.

    5. The Full Protection Setup

    Sealant + heavy-duty tubes + Tannus Armor + hard-case tires?
    Good luck getting a flat.

The Valley deserves a quality e-bike repair shop.

While I stand behind my mechanical work on any electric bicycle, moped, or e-trike, I want to be transparent about something:

I am a mechanic—not an electrician.

I can replace electrical components on most major brands, but:

  • Only using legitimate OEM parts
  • Only when properly sourced

I strongly discourage anyone from trusting shops that:

  • Use questionable aftermarket electrical parts
  • Attempt in-house battery repairs
  • Rewire systems without manufacturer support

Improper electrical repairs can be dangerous—and in some cases, lead to serious fire risks. If a shop tells you they can “repair” a damaged battery or controller internally, I would proceed with extreme caution.

Protect your investment. Safety comes first.

  1. My Favorite E-Bike & Moped Care Tips

Here’s how to keep your machine running smoothly:

    1. Check Tire Pressure Regularly

Under-inflated tires destroy expensive e-bike sidewalls quickly. I’ve seen it time and time again. Invest in a quality pump with an accurate gauge and use it regularly.

    2. Lube Your Chain

Dry, squeaky chains wear out fast, skip under load, and can fail prematurely. Even if you mostly use the throttle, you’ll eventually need to pedal—and pushing a heavy bike with lower-end worn drivetrain components is tough on the system.

Routine cleaning and lubrication go a long way.

    3. Monitor Your Brake Pads

Heavier bikes + higher speeds = faster brake wear. Many riders don’t notice until their braking power is gone. Check pads regularly, especially if you ride often.

Also keep an eye on hydraulic systems:

    • If you see fluid leaking near the lever or caliper, stop riding immediately.
    • Brake line failure usually means sudden loss of braking.

    Don’t ignore warning signs.

    4. Watch Chain Wear

Most mopeds and entry-level e-bikes don’t use top-tier drivetrains. Chains wear out faster—especially without maintenance.

    Common signs of chain wear:

    • Skipping under load
    • Rough shifting
    • Dropped chains

E-bike specific chains cost slightly more but are well worth it for regular riders.

If your gears feel out of alignment or jump around while riding, get them adjusted before further damage occurs.

    5. Keep It Clean

A clean bike is a happy bike.

Built-up dirt on drivetrain components, hubs, and brakes accelerates wear and reduces performance. I offer professional bike washes that restore both appearance and function.

    If washing at home:

    • Use bike-specific cleaners or diluted dish soap (50/50)
    • Use soft nylon brushes and detailing rags
    • Use a gentle spray—never a pressure washer
    • Avoid spraying directly into electrical components
    • Clean battery and wiring areas with a damp rag
    • Dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth
    • Never submerge an e-bike or moped

Most electric bikes are rated IPX-4 (rain-resistant, not waterproof).

If you’ve got a heavy machine that needs service, assembly, or flat protection upgrades, I’m here for it.

The Valley deserves dependable e-bike service—and that’s exactly what I aim to provide.

    Enjoy the ride. 🚲
